The Disappearance of Lauren Spierer

The Disappearance of Lauren Spierer

In the early morning hours of June 3, 2011, 20-year-old Indiana University student Lauren Spierer vanished after a night out with friends in downtown Bloomington, Indiana. Despite surveillance footage, witness statements, and a detailed timeline of her final hours, Lauren has never been found.

Lauren Spierer grew up in Scarsdale, New York, with her parents Robert and Charlene and her older sister Rebecca. She attended Edgemont High School before enrolling at Indiana University, where she studied textiles merchandising. Friends described Lauren as outgoing, social, and someone who loved spending time with the people closest to her.

By the summer of 2011, Lauren had just finished her sophomore year and was living at Smallwood Plaza, an apartment complex located just blocks from campus and downtown Bloomington.

On the night of June 2, 2011, Lauren went out with friends to several apartments and bars in the area. Throughout the night, surveillance cameras captured pieces of her movements as she traveled between locations. Investigators would later rely heavily on this footage to reconstruct her final hours.

Lauren was last seen in the early morning hours of June 3rd, walking barefoot through downtown Bloomington after leaving a nearby apartment. Despite being just blocks from her own apartment, she was never seen again.

In the years since her disappearance, investigators have followed thousands of leads, conducted searches, and reviewed countless hours of surveillance footage. Lauren’s parents have continued to push for answers, hoping that someone who knows what happened that night will eventually come forward.

More than a decade later, the disappearance of Lauren Spierer remains one of the most well-known unsolved cases connected to Indiana University.

Anyone with information about Lauren Spierer’s disappearance is encouraged to contact the Bloomington Police Department.
