Suicide or Homicide: Ellen Greenberg

Ellen Greenberg, a 27-year old teacher at Juniata Park Academy in Philadelphia was found dead inside her apartment with 20 stab wounds. The medical examiner initially ruled her death a homicide but was changed to suicide after pressure from the police.

Ellen had 10 stab wounds to the back of the neck and head. She didn’t leave behind a suicide note and there was bowl of fruit left on the kitchen sink.

She had numerous bruises over her body that were in various stages of resolution.

Ellen had recently seen a psychiatrist for increased feelings of stress and anxiety. However, she never expressed having any suicide thoughts.

Even after several forensic experts have consulted on the case suggesting homicide, Ellen’s death is still classified as a suicide.

The Greenberg family has filed a lawsuit against the Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Officer in an effort to get the manner of death changed from suicide to homicide. The lawsuit is awaiting trial.
