On March 6, 1969, nine-year-old Candice “Candy” Rogers disappeared while selling Camp Fire mints around her Spokane, Washington, neighborhood. Two weeks later, the police discovered her body buried in the woods. The gruesome discovery revealed that her killer kidnapped and sexually assaulted her before murdering her. Initially, the police received thousands of tips that led to several possible suspects. But as the months turned to years, the murder of Candice Rogers became known as the state’s “Mount Everest of Cold Cases.” After six long decades, the police finally identified a promising suspect in the young girl’s brutal murder through genetic genealogy.
